Welcome back! Today we're really diving into the Kenya Tree Coral, or Capnella. Itβs a total staple for beginners, right?
Guest
Absolutely. Itβs incredibly hardy and looks like a miniature underwater forest. It basically just thrives on neglect, quite honestly.

"Thrives on neglect" sounds perfect, but I've heard it can become a bit of a nightmare in a reef tank.
Guest
Well, "nightmare" is a strong word, but it is invasive. It drops branches that float away and start new colonies everywhere.
Host
See, thatβs where I disagree with calling it "beginner-friendly." If a novice isn't careful, their whole tank becomes a monoculture!
Guest
Fair point. You do need to manage the "self-fragging." Plus, they release toxins, so running activated carbon is a must to protect other corals.
Host
Right, and they need that moderate flow to shed their skin. Itβs a fascinating, if aggressive, addition to any reef.
Guest
Exactly. Just keep those scissors handy for pruning! It grows so fast it's honestly wild to watch.

Good advice. Thanks for joining us to talk about this resilient tree. See you next time, everyone! Happy reefing!
